Bartlebys Job and Bartleby Comparison Essay Topics

Bartleby's Job and Bartleby Comparison Essay TopicsBartleby (or Bart) is an employee of the court of a very famous Quaker judge. His main role is to take down the briefcases and brief statements which are delivered to the court from the client's counsel. It has been found that Bartleby can't do anything by himself as he is quite small in size.Of course, all this could be explained as merely being a burden to his employer. Indeed, it was no great deal for him. He is quite good at his job and can take down a record about a person, after he has written down the credentials of the person. So much so that he was the only person allowed to take down the documents and statements without any input from other people. In fact, in court, the only person who will give Bartleby a look-out for his work is a very small chair placed in a little corner where a person's work place will stand. In case Bartleby notices someone is approaching him, he is supposed to take down his belongings. This type of o bservation may be very inconvenient for the clients, as they will not be able to get a moment for a thorough look at the papers.Bartleby is known to sit in a little bar which was situated in the middle of the court room in a corner. The barkeep and the rest of the court staffs were telling to observe this spot. Therefore, he has been getting reports from the barkeep but it was the Barkeeper who usually chooses when to read these reports. The Barkeep was very troubled by Bartleby's behavior in taking down his belongings from the table. He was convinced that the paperwork should be preserved somehow and not just dumped in the trash. However, it was the manager of the court who said that Bartleby must be paid, so the other employees might also be paid. As such, Barkeep was afraid that Bartleby may steal something from the clerk. The Barkeep himself did not have the courage to challenge the observation about Bartleby's stealing behavior. After all, Bartleby could be found sitting next to the Barkeep, he may even be sitting in the barroom and he could be observed anywhere. The Barkeep became determined to do something about this problem. The Barkeep decided to call the clerk and asked him to take a look at Bartleby and his papers. He did not expect anything good from the clerk. What he got was a letter which was signed by the clerk that Bartleby had stolen from the bar. This letter also advised the Barkeep that it is the right of the Barkeep to take Bartleby back and try to get his stolen papers back. The Barkeep was going to keep his job. However, Bartleby did not notice the letter and kept on doing his job. The Barkeep was so hurt that he wanted to challenge Bartleby for taking the papers. However, the other clerks warned him against it and he took it as a challenge.
